Firestone FR 380 truck tires are not round. Your experience?
Question by tercir2006: Firestone FR 380 truck tires are not round. Your experience?
When I first bought these tires I didn’t get a hundred yards before I was turning around and going back to complain. They replaced two tires, but the problem still persisted, just not as bad. I went back and watched the tires as they spun on the balancer. I could see up and down movement of 1/8 inch to 3/16 inch. I work with those dimensions all the time, so please trust me that this is what I’m seeing.
Have you heard anything bad about these tires? Or do you have a similar experience?
I’ve checked the rims to make sure they’re not bent. Only one showed about 1/32 inch out of round, so I’m inclined to disbelieve it’s a rim problem.
It’s not a balance issue either because the shake is bad only at certain speeds, and is not transmitted into the steering wheel. At that speed only, not above or below does it manifest itself. If it were out of balance (which the tires have been checked for balance 8 or 9 times total) the vibration would start at a certain speed and get progressively worse the faster you go. Since at higher speeds the vibration goes away it must be a harmonic vibration.
So, what’s your opinion? I’m planning on replacing these tires with a different dealership and brand and returning the original tires for a refund.
Oh, Firestone has agreed that they would refund my purchase price.

If the whole car is shaking from the tires its the back tires the only time the steering wheel is effected is if its a front tire that’s out of balance then the steering wheel shakes.
good luck

Q&A: Chevy Truck tires, Yokohama or Firestone?
Question by xxkristenlynnxx: Chevy Truck tires, Yokohama or Firestone?
Ok I am in need of new tires for my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 4×4 crew cab short box. My tire size is 265/70R17. The two tires I am currently looking at are the Yokohama GeoLander A/T and the FireStone Destination A/T. Which is the better tire and winter is closing in on New England and I live in NH so clearly need something all weather. Or if anyone has any other recommendations that would be helpful!

if you are not involved in serious off road driving, then i suggest that you look at all season suv tires with the snowflake symbol. below is a good article describing these tires.
“The mountain/snowflake symbol branding on a tire sidewall lets us know, at a glance, the tire is really good in the snow.
Some Alpine passes require a traction device such as chains to get through when winter is at it’s worst. Tires with the mountain/snowflake symbol allow you to pass through as well. Some states also require at least 6/32nd of tread depth. Double check locally on the tread depth rule.
The following non-winter, light truck/SUV tires are branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol.
On/Off Road All-Terrain
•BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO (select sizes)
•Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT
•General Grabber AT2
•Goodyear Wrangler A/T Extreme
•Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor
•Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61
On/Off Road Commercial Traction
•Dunlop Rover M/T Maxx Traction
•Dunlop Radial Rover RT
•Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
These tires qualify as winter-approved for Canadian providences that require winter/snow tires for vehicles over 6,000 lbs.”

If you’re going for some kind of stupid record, please don’t do it anywhere near me or my kids. I don’t want to be around when one of your tires finally fails.

What are big truck tires worth to export?
Question by Chippewa: What are big truck tires worth to export?
I have about 1,000 truck tires on wheels. They are a mix of four different sizes, 11×22.5, 175 22.5, 185 22.5 and 195 22.5.
They are not new, but the tread is great on them, they are anywhere from 65% to 90% tread left.
What are these worth if I were to sell them to someone who is in the export business?

265 is a pretty wide tire! I have 235s on my Jeep and they look fine. Anything wider than 275 would be pushing it.
